Photography Classes
I discovered photography through my father when in high school, creating a spark that grew into a lifelong pursuit of visual art. After studying painting and printmaking at Columbia University, I returned to photography, building a career as a photo assistant, master printer, and exhibiting artist.
For more than 20 years, I also led digital projects for major pharmaceutical companies—rising from developer to solutions architect—where I combined technology, design, and strategy. Today, I draw on this unique blend of artistic and technical expertise to create work that bridges visual expression and digital innovation.
Classes/Individual Instruction
I offer structured curricula for both beginner photography and street photography. Classes are divided into manageable sessions and designed to be accessible and engaging. I prefer working with small groups—no more than five participants—or offering one-on-one instruction for a more personalized experience.
The images I have here on my website are a more curated selection. You can see the more current images that I am creating regularly on my Instagram. To get a sense of my artistic practice, read my Artist Q&A.
If you have a specific topic or skill you’d like to explore, I’m happy to discuss custom sessions to meet your needs. Feel free to reach out here (or on Instagram) with any questions or to learn more about upcoming classes.
Beginner Photography Class (Focused on Digital)
The beginner class consists of two online sessions designed to introduce essential photographic concepts and provide hands-on practice.
Session 1
We’ll cover foundational topics such as:
– Camera types
– Exposure
– Shutter speed
– Aperture (f-stop)
– ISO (sensitivity)
– White balance and color temperature
– Basic composition techniques
– Lenses
I will answer questions and may assign a few practical exercises between sessions. These exercises will focus on experimenting with shutter priority and aperture priority modes, exploring depth of field and motion control, and applying composition techniques discussed in the session. Session 1 should run an hour, but if it needs to go longer, I will be available.
Session 2
We’ll review your completed exercises together, discuss the results, and troubleshoot any challenges you encountered. The goal is to help you gain confidence and a clearer understanding of how to use your camera creatively and effectively.

We’ll cover key concepts and practical information, including:
– An introduction to essential photography terms and techniques
– What defines street photography
– Legal considerations: street photography and the law
– A look at influential masters of the genre for inspiration
Session 2: Photo Walk
We’ll meet in New York City—either Manhattan or Brooklyn—for a hands-on street photography session. You’ll have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in real-world settings, observe your surroundings, and begin developing your personal approach to the street.
This course can also be customized for one-on-one instruction if you prefer a more individualized experience.
