Teaching & Consulting

My father introduced me to the fundamentals of photography when I was in high school. That early experience sparked a lifelong interest in visual art. I went on to study painting and printmaking at Columbia University in the City of New York, but eventually returned to focus exclusively on photography. After college, I worked in commercial photography as a photo assistant and master printer. Over the years, my photographic work has been widely exhibited and collected.

Alongside my artistic pursuits, I spent more than 22 years developing marketing websites for major pharmaceutical companies. I began as a developer and eventually advanced to manager of web development and technologies, where I collaborated with clients and engineers as a solutions architect. This professional journey has given me a broad and integrated understanding of art, digital media, technology, and marketing.

If you’re interested in collaborating or would like consulting support on a project, please reach out to me and we will discuss the possibilities.

Classes/Individual Instruction

If you’re interested in taking a class with me, I offer structured curricula for both beginner photography and street photography. Classes are divided into manageable sessions and designed to be accessible and engaging. I prefer working with small groups—no more than five participants—or offering one-on-one instruction for a more personalized experience.

If you have a specific topic or skill you’d like to explore, I’m happy to discuss custom sessions to meet your needs. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to learn more about upcoming classes.

Beginner Photography Class

The beginner class consists of two online sessions designed to introduce essential photographic concepts and provide hands-on practice.

Session 1
We’ll cover foundational topics including:
– Exposure
– Shutter speed
– Aperture (f-stop)
– ISO (sensitivity)
– White balance
– Basic composition techniques

I’ll also answer questions and assign 3–4 practical exercises to complete between sessions. These exercises will focus on experimenting with shutter priority and aperture priority modes, exploring depth of field and motion control, and applying composition techniques discussed in the session.

Session 2
We’ll review your completed exercises together, discuss your results, and troubleshoot any challenges you encountered. The goal is to help you gain confidence and a clearer understanding of how to use your camera creatively and effectively.

If you are interested, please contact me.

Street Photography Class

This class is divided into two sessions: one online discussion and one in-person photo walk. It’s designed to introduce you to the unique challenges and rewards of street photography.

Session 1: Online Discussion
We’ll cover key concepts and practical information, including:
– An introduction to essential photography terms and techniques
– What defines street photography
– Legal considerations: street photography and the law
– A look at influential masters of the genre for inspiration

Session 2: Photo Walk
We’ll meet in New York City—either Manhattan or Brooklyn—for a hands-on street photography session. You’ll have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in real-world settings, observe your surroundings, and begin developing your personal approach to the street.

This course can also be customized for one-on-one instruction if you prefer a more individualized experience.
